Sometimes I know that I am addicted to Diet Coke when I finish a 20 ounce bottle and secretly and silently long for my very own fountain pop machine in my home. This is not normal. I need to drink more water. Can a person get addicted to water in the same way, or at least develop a strong longing for it...without being stranded on a desert island? That's it for today. That's as good as it gets today.

It is very possible to get addicted to water. Trust me, as a former coke addict (the soda not the powder...although I haven't yet spent enough time in LA), I can say definitively, that one can become addicted to water in the same way one is addicted to pop, or cigarettes, or anything else one becomes addicted to.

YES! I love Cokes (any soda, really), but I have to have water at all times.
I doubt the water addiction bit: no caffine, no sugar :)
i recently discovered just how important water can be. when i had to do my body comp test they told me to make sure that i am fully hydrated. so i drank water for 4 days. first time in my life. it was like freaking medicine. i had no idea that 95% of my daily pain was a result of dehydration. everyone always said that water is important, but i had NO idea! now i need it every day. so, my opinion, yes, it is a natural addiction. but for the record i still need several shots of espresso and about 5 diet cokes to get through a day.
Ooh... a soda fountain in my house would be SO cool. But I'd never use it. My daily beverage ritual is as follows: 1 glass of juice, 1 mug of coffee, water ALL DAY LONG, diet soda with dinner. It seldom varies. I'm so boring. But I'm with you, I *heart* Diet Coke right now (and Diet Cherry Coke). It's my diet soda of choice.
