Watch This

I guess the lesson here is...Never say never.

I am married to a fan of the Sci Fi genre of television, movies, and books. I have endured six years of 'dilithium crystals' on Star Trek and 'wookies' on Star Wars and during all of these hours, I rarely understand what is going on. It is as if they are speaking another language during most of the dialogue.

Along with the BBC's The Office and Arrested Development, my friend Amy has suggested the television show Battlestar Galactica. I assured her that I am not the friend of sci fi. She knew this so she told me that there are human stories and quality character development in this show.

Before placing Battlestar Galactica into my Netflix queue, I downloaded a free preview on itunes and watched it. It was FANTASTIC! I could hardly wait to get the mini series to see the rest. I am not the only non-sci fi watching that is watching sci fi these days. This article sums that all up. So, never say never.

I had a hard time getting into the first episode, so I haven't been watching it. But I keep hearing reve reviews. I think I may begin to add Battlestar Galactica to my regular weekly viewing. I have a coworker who said he'd lend me his DVDs so I can get caught up.

Huh... you're not the first person to say this. I really don't like sci-fi, though. But, this show must really be something different. I'll check it out!

Sara, I'm thrilled to hear about your conversion. Let me make another plug to your readership: Great writing, great acting, this is a great show. There are few missteps along the way, but it's been a while since I've seen a show hold itself together like this one. Don't be scared by the Sci Fi stuff - it's a backdrop to an amazing (and relevant) human drama. I'm obsessed.

Ugh, Sara, I now think a little less of you. My husband watches this garbage. I have to demand a channel change or leave the room. He can't just leave it at this one show either, he has to watch all the others too - Stargate SG-1 or something? Yuck.
